Thousand Acre Swamp is a preserve owned by the Nature Conservancy. It has a bird checklist of 120 species. This easy 2.5 mile walk goes through a variety of habitats, resulting in a variety of breeding bird species and migrants. The habitats include swampy woods, drier woods, a marshy area, meadows, and a pond.
Shorter routes are possible. The entrance and parking lot are on the west side of Jackson Road opposite Penfield Center Road in Penfield. Boots are recommended.
