Is the lakeshore area between Buffalo and Rochester a good place for a wind farm? Not according to many, and not according to this study released by the Fish and Wildlife Service.
This Great Lakes Avian technical Report for Niagra, Genesee, Wayne and Jefferson Counties, NY shows HEAVY use of the area, particularly by nighttime migrants, and specifically states that due to the birds shifting altitudes under various environmental conditions, the threat of collisions with wind turbines is significant in these areas.
This is the smoking gun arguing against wind energy so close to the lake shore in NY. If risk to birds means anything to our elected leaders, this should shelve lakeshore wind farm projects like the pending APEX Lighthouse wind farm in the towns of Somerset and Yates.
