SUMMARY:Young Birder Trip – Mendon Ponds Park
DESCRIPTION:Mendon Ponds Park has mixed woods\, fields\, and bird feeders.  Birds possible here include; chickadees\, nuthatches\, sparrows\, cardinals\, titmice\, finches\, and woodpeckers.  We will meet in the parking lot of Wild Wings and the Nature Center on Pond Road.  Bring binoculars and a camera.  Sunflower seed will be provided.  Trails are mostly flat with some easy hills.  Bathrooms are available inside the Nature Center. \nNote:  Trips will go forward rain or shine unless there is a travel advisory.  Wear sturdy shoes/boots and dress for the weather.  Bring binoculars.  Extra binoculars will be available to borrow.  A spotting scope will be available for up close looks at birds thanks to a very generous donor! \nAny questions call (518)256-9147 or email Neal Reilly  \nRBA Field Trip Guidelines \nAll field trips go rain/snow or shine unless there is a travel advisory issued. SUMMARY:Beginner Birder Trip – Mendon Ponds Park Songbird Trail
DESCRIPTION:This trip will be a leisurely winter walk along rolling trails (approx. 1.5 miles) featuring some very close looks at our winter passerines!  Bring your binoculars\, some sunflower seeds\, and your camera!  This is a family-friendly field trip. \nMeet at 9:30 a.m. at the visitor center on Pond Road near Clover Street. Restroom is available at the visitor center or port-a-john. \nLeader: John Boettcher 585-671-9639 and co-leader Ann McMican 585-533-1222 \nNote: This is a field trip for beginners. New birders should feel free to join these trips regardless of experience level: bring binoculars if you have them. The pace & focus of Beginner Trips may not be satisfying for experienced birders. Our Beginner Trips focus on teaching identification skills\, learning new habitats\, and answering questions. SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count for Kids - Saturday\, December 9th\, 2017
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nCome help us count the birds that make their winter homes in Mendon Ponds!\nFor 117 years\, adults have counted birds every winter as part of the annual Christmas Bird Count\, and now it’s time for kids to join the fun! The Christmas Bird Count for Kids is a family-friendly bird-watching event that builds bird identification skills and contributes to scientific bird count data. \nThe adventure starts with a short indoor lesson to introduce the local birds and to practice using binoculars. We’ll then head outdoors to count the birds! Experienced birders will lead small teams of kids (and their parents) on different routes throughout Mendon Ponds Park\, as we attempt to find as many birds and as many species as possible. Each survey route will be 45-90 minutes (depending on the weather!)\, and at the end all the teams will meet up to tally their birds and to compare sightings. \n\nREGISTER NOW AT EVENTBRITE >>\n\nWho can come?\nWe welcome both beginning and advanced birders up to age 18\, but note that very young children may not be suited for this particular event. All children must be accompanied by an adult\, and registration is required. \nWhat to bring?\nPlease come prepared for the weather and bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them. Some additional binoculars and guides will be available for use at the event.
