SUMMARY:Beginner Trip: Charlotte & Turning Point Park - Registration Open!
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be looking for shorebirds\, warblers\, and other fall migrants along the river and lakeshore.  At Charlotte Beach\, we’ll look for gulls in many plumages and some shorebirds\, too.  At Turning Point Park\, we will look for the usual suspects and fall migrants. \nMeet at 8:00 a.m. at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte in the northeast corner of the parking lot\, beside the Genesee River outlet. \nNote: This is a field trip for beginners. New birders should feel free to join these trips regardless of experience level: bring binoculars and scopes if you have them. The pace & focus of Beginner Trips may not be satisfying for experienced birders. Our Beginner Trips focus on teaching identification skills\, learning new habitats\, and answering questions. Experienced birders are welcome but may be pressed into service as educators! \n\nCOVID-19 Policies and Procedures\nDue to the novel coronavirus pandemic\, the Rochester Birding Association is instituting the following procedures for all field trips. By registering for this field trip\, you acknowledge that you have read and will abide by these policies. \nRegistration Policies: \n• Advance registration through Eventbrite is required in order to attend the trip. NYS guidelines currently allow no more than 25 individuals at an outdoor gathering. All trips will be capped to meet that requirement\, and exact capacity limits will be determined on a trip by trip basis. \n• Individuals who did not pre-register will not be allowed to attend the field trip. \n• Should you decide not to attend the trip\, we encourage you to cancel your reservation to make room for others. Canceling is easily done through the Eventbrite website; see your confirmation email for details. \nHealth Screening Considerations: \n• Full contact information is required at registration\, in case contact tracing is requested. \n• No one who has a temperature of 100.4F or greater (without having taken any fever-reducing medications) should attend. \n• No one who has any COVID-19 symptoms (fever\, cough\, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing\, chills\, muscle pain\, sore throat\, or loss of taste or smell) should attend. \n• No one who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days or who has been instructed to self-isolate or quarantine should attend. \n• No one who has been in close (within 6 feet) or proximate (same closed environment\, but greater than 6 feet) contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or who has had symptoms of COVID-19 within the past 14 days\, should attend. \n• No one who has traveled or who lives with someone who has traveled to a country or state on the New York coronavirus travel advisory list in the last 14 days should attend. \n• Participants who test positive for the coronavirus within 14 days after attending a field trip are encouraged to contact the RBA. \nSocial Distancing and Safety Best Practices \n• Participants will be required to stay 6 feet apart at all times and wear a mask whenever they are outside of their car. \n• Participants that reside in the same household may share binoculars or scopes\, but we regret that otherwise optics cannot be shared. We realize this may be frustrating for those who do not have their own spotting scopes. DESCRIPTION:March 17\, 2020 – Given the current directives and health concerns stemming from the Covid-19 virus\, RBA and the Field Trip Committee has decided to cancel the following field trips and events: \nSaturday\, March 21: Hawk Watch\nThursday\, March 26: Birds & Brews\nSaturday\, March 28: Owl Woods \nThe next Field Trip\, scheduled for Friday\, April 10 to see Woodcocks\, is 28 days away. We will assess whether to hold that trip\, as well as future trips\, as the time grows nearer.  Please be advised\, however\, that trips in the foreseeable future will be cancelled until further notice. \nIn the meantime\, please do go out on your own\, enjoy fresh air and migrating birds as Spring unfolds! SUMMARY:Warbler Wednesdays
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re a new or aspiring birder who wants help finding and identifying the most colorful birds of spring\, or an experienced birder who is looking for a quick trip on the way home from work\, Warbler Wednesdays are a perfect respite for busy people. \nJoin John Boettcher and the RBA each Wednesday evening in May\, for a quick trip.  We’ll meet at 6:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Lucien Morien Park\, located at 1135 Empire Blvd. in Penfield.  The park is at the south end of Irondequoit Bay\, just to the east of where Irondequoit Creek enters. We’ll bird from the access road that wanders up through the park\, examining the edges and adjacent wetlands nearby for migrating warblers and other passerines. While you may want sturdy shoes and bug spray\, you likely don’t need your full field wardrobe. \nNote:  The address will take you to the right venue\, but the pin on the map is in the wrong spot.  We’ll be meeting near MacGregors\, not up by Bay Towne. \n

DESCRIPTION:We’ll look primarily for our smallest visiting owl\, the Northern Saw-whet\, which returns to this spot on a yearly basis. Long-eared Owl generally put in an appearance\, too\, although they’re quite shy and great at hiding. After the owl walk we’ll head to the Hawk Watch site to learn how to identify raptors on the wing. At this time of year\, we might witness spectacular flights of thousands of raptors! \nMeet in the Parking Lot on the right side of Manitou Beach Road across from the Owl Woods trail head at 7:30 a.m. The Owl Woods trails may be wet and muddy in spots. DESCRIPTION:We’ll look primarily for our smallest visiting owl\, the Northern Saw-whet\, which returns to this spot on a yearly basis. Long-eared Owl generally put in an appearance\, too\, although they’re quite shy and great at hiding. After the owl walk we’ll head to the Hawk Watch site to learn how to identify raptors on the wing. At this time of year\, we might witness spectacular flights of thousands of raptors! \nMeet in the Parking Lot on the right side of Manitou Beach Road across from the Owl Woods trail head at 7:30 a.m. The Owl Woods trails may be wet and muddy in spots.
